Fougères vase - 1925
The ‘Fougères’ (Ferns) vase is a highly celebrated Art Deco model designed in 1925 by the legendary French master glassmaker and sculptor Gabriel Argy-Rousseau (1885–1953)
Crafted using pâte de verre (glass paste)—a challenging technique revived by Argy-Rousseau. It involved packing finely crushed glass powders and metallic oxides into a mold before firing, resulting in rich textures and intentional color gradients baked directly into the material rather than painted on the surface.
While known models frequently feature a mottled green-brown or yellow-orange body, rare variants showcase deep shades of cobalt, night blue, and translucent light blue
